Congratulations to María López Guardone, Amanda Cann, Jonathan Yan, and Nicolas Lobotsky for setting New York state records this summer and back in 2023.
Maria’s 86 kg clean and jerk and 156 kg total broke the records in the Women’s 35-39 age group and 81 kg weight class. Previously the clean and jerk was held by Laura McCall who lifted 81 kg at the 2020 Christmas & Kilos meet. Maria already held the total record and improved upon it by 3 kg.
Amanda broke the snatch, clean and jerk, and total in the Women’s 40-44 age group and 87 kg weight class. These records were previously held by Gayge Maggio who snatched 65 kg, clean and jerked 85 kg, and totaled 150 kg at the 2022 National Masters Championships.
It was quite the busy summer for Amanda who also improved upon her records in the 40-44 age group and +87 kg weight classe by clean and jerking 86 kg and totaling 152 kg. These are 4 kg improvements for each record.
Jonathan equaled the record standard thus making him the record holder in the Men’s 35-39 age group and 67 kg weight class with a 98 kg clean and jerk. Record standards must be equaled or surpassed. A record standard is based on the IWF world record standard comparison to the next higher weight class.
Nicolas broke the records in the Men’s 40-44 age group and 89 kg weight class with a 101 kg snatch, a 123 kg clean and jerk, and a 223 kg total. The snatch record was previously held by Todd Morris who snatched 88 kg at the 2019 Brooklyn Barbell Qualifier. James Swaffer previously held the clean and jerk record with a 117 kg lift, and the total with 202 kg both set at the 2018 Connecticut Open.
We encourage all NY WSO members to review the records along with their competition history to see if they have broken a record. If you’ve set a record, please submit an application.
