Athlete Support

The New York WSO works to promote and support the grassroots growth and development of weightlifting in our state. One way that we seek to strengthen our community is by providing financial support to athletes through sponsorship and scholarship opportunities.

Athlete Support Fund:

The NY WSO has committed to setting aside funds within its bank account for use in funding sponsorship and scholarship opportunities. To grow the fund, outside of donations and fundraising efforts, our WSO will contribute 25% of its quarterly earnings from USA Weightlifting to the Athlete Support Fund from January 1st, 2022 forward.

Scholarships:

Scholarships are drafted by a subcommittee of the NY WSO board, the Athlete Support Commitee. The Athlete Support Committee is comprised of NY WSO Athlete Reps Sara Soto, Jerry Dunne, and Alyssa Garrison; it is chaired by board President James McDermott. Drafted scholarships are presented to the NY WSO board to be discussed, updated as needed, and approved for implementation.
