Coaching Development Scholarship

The NY WSO has partnered with USA Weightlifting to offer Women's Coaching Development and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Coaching Development scholarships.

Four scholarships will be provided in total annually:

 

  • 1 Women's Coaching Development Scholarship from the NY WSO.

  • 1 Women's Coaching Development Scholarship from the USA Weightlifting.

  • 1 BIPOC Coaching Development Scholarship from the NY WSO.

  • 1 BIPOC Coaching Development Scholarship from the USA Weightlifting.


Each scholarship is for a Level 1 or Level 2 coaching course enrollment. In addition to the scholarship match, USAW will provide a one-year coach membership at no cost to each scholarship recipient. Travel-related and non-tuition expenses are not covered.

Selection Criteria:
The emphasis
is to award a scholarship to individuals who can demonstrate a commitment to growing the sport of weightlifting. The scholarships are awarded based on the following criteria.

 

  • Applicants must submit an application before the deadline listed below.

  • Applicants who are working or plan to work with under-served populations in a weightlifting or sport capacity are preferred.

  • Applicants with experience in the sport of weightlifting as an athlete or as a coach are preferred.

  • Applicants with less than five years of coaching experience in the sport are preferred.

  • Applicants with high levels of coaching success, social impact through sport and/or academic achievement in sport are preferred.

  • Recipients must be U.S. citizens, 17 years of age or older, and identify as a member of the BIPOC community or women’s community.


Submitting an application:

The application period for 2024 has concluded. The schedule for 2025 will be announced closer to the end of the year. Scholarship winners will have 6 months from the time of being awarded the scholarship to register for a USAW L1 or L2 coaching course.
